松江藩松平家七代藩主が広めた茶道文化が今も色濃く息づく城下町「松江」
松江は京都、金沢と並び日本三大菓子、茶処として知られています。これも大名茶人であった松江藩松平家 七代藩主・松平治郷 (不昧公) が茶道「不昧流」を大成させたことで、茶の湯文化が浸透したと言われています。四季の移ろいを感じながらゆったり過ごす「お茶のひととき」が今日も城下町に息づいています。
Matsue, along with Kyoto and Kanazawa, is known as one of Japan's three major sweets and tea places. It is said that tea culture spread here when Matsudaira Harusato (Lord Fumai), the seventh feudal lord of the Matsudaira clan of Matsue Domain, who was also a feudal tea master, perfected the "Fumai school" of tea ceremony. "Tea time," a leisurely time spent feeling the changing of the seasons, is still alive and well in the castle town today.
たたら製鉄
日本古来の鉄づくり「たたら製鉄」で繁栄した出雲の地では、今日もなお世界で唯一たたら製鉄の炎が燃え続けています。
たたら製鉄は、優れた鉄の生産だけでなく、原料砂鉄の採取跡地を広大な稲田に再生し、燃料の木炭山林を永続的に循環利用するという人と自然とが共生する持続可能なSDG’sに沿った産業として日本社会を支えてきました。
Izumo, a region that prospered through the ancient Japanese method of ironmaking known as "tatara ironworks," is the only place in the world where the flames of tatara ironworks continue to burn to this day.
Tatara ironworks not only produce superior steel, but also regenerate land formerly used for iron sand mining into vast rice fields and recycle charcoal forests for fuel in perpetuity, supporting Japanese society as a sustainable industry in line with the SDGs, where people and nature coexist in harmony.
出雲そば
島根県の出雲地方で広く食べられる郷土料理「出雲そば」は、長野県の「戸隠そば」や岩手県の「わんこそば」と並ぶ日本三大蕎麦の１つとして有名です。たたら製鉄における砂鉄を掘った後の土地を棚田にして有効活用した蕎麦畑で栽培されたことが始まりと言われています。
Izumo soba, a local dish widely enjoyed in the Izumo region of Shimane Prefecture, is famous as one of Japan's three great soba dishes, alongside Togakushi soba from Nagano Prefecture and Wankosoba from Iwate Prefecture.
t began as a buckwheat cultivation site on the land that was used to make terraced rice fields after iron sand was dug for tatara iron smelting.
